Recently I met with two fellow women artist friends to discuss each other’s works, and it was intriguing to see where we overlap, conceptually as well as in regards to form and material. It seems we all have, albeit in different ways, referenced animals in our works, mostly the wild kind. This got me thinking about the “wild woman” archetype again (I literally had a post about this sitting in my drafts for months), and the special relationship between women and animals, which is closely tied to the historically patriarchal and oppression-based organization of human society.
